St. Louis, MO - Dr. Alisa Warren, Executive Director for the Missouri Commission on Human Rights (MCHR), was elected First Vice President of the International Association of Official Human Rights Agencies (IAOHRA) at their recent meeting.
As part of the Missouri Department of Labor and Industrial Relations (DOLIR), the mission of the Missouri Commission on Human Rights is to develop, recommend and implement ways to prevent and eliminate discrimination and to provide fair and timely resolutions of discrimination claims in housing, employment and places of public accommodation.
“This is a great opportunity for Missouri to share and learn from other organizations and apply best practices to promote economic vitality, safety, and fairness to businesses and employees,” said DOLIR Director Anna Hui.
IAOHRA’s mission is to provide opportunities and forums for the exchange of ideas and information among member agencies and other human rights advocates. IAOHRA provides assistance in the development of programs for eliminating illegal discrimination in employment, housing, education, public accommodations, public services and commercial transactions, including banking and lending practices.
The MCHR Commission appointed Warren as Executive Director in 2008. Prior to joining MCHR, Warren worked for the University of Missouri as Director of Diversity Initiatives. Her previous Missouri state service included employment with the Office of Administration as Director of the Office of Equal Opportunity and as the Department of Economic Development’s Interim Executive Director of the Missouri Community Service Commission. Warren holds a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Design, a master’s in Public Administration, and a doctorate in Community Development with an emphasis in Social Disparity, all from the University of Missouri.
